Fernando is an incredibly accomplished executive with over 23 years in the automotive industry. He has done it all, from parts and services all the way to complete executive operations. Mike Searls is the founder and CEO of Thin Air Brands – a consumer products design, manufacturing, and marketing company and Success Training Systems, a consulting company. His companies have generated over $100 million over the years and his current company has doubled in size every year since inception. He is a regular speaker at national events and winner of Dan Kennedy’s “Marketer of the Year” award. He has worked with over 100 companies as a business coach and consultant. Searls is an avid cyclist, fly fisherman, and snowboarder. He lives with his wife in Colorado and is a father of four, and a grandfather of five.
John Hanighen is a C-Level Executive and veteran of progressive leadership roles with Fortune 250 companies covering all the automotive aftermarket sectors. During his career, John progressed from shop owner during his undergraduate studies to senior level positions with the Automotive Aftermarket’s premier participants. A respected and collaborative leader, John can recruit top talent and motivate teams to embrace aggressive goals.
Brian Sump is not your typical shop owner. A former professional athlete, Sump had never turned a wrench in a shop before starting Denver-based Avalon Motorsports in 2007. Brian is now a multi-location shop owner and founding board member of Transformers Institute.
Ron started his career as an automotive technician in 1982 in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1997 he opened his own 2 bay repair shop, Westside Auto Pros. Over the next 21 years he grew it into a 14-bay, state of the art facility grossing 4 million a year in sales.
Ron has been involved in the industry as co-chair of Vision Training and Expo in Kansas City, a member of the Ratchet & Wrench editorial board, past president of ASA Midwest Des Moines, and serving on the advisory board for Auto Vitals.
Ron is a master at marketing in the auto shop industry and is the Transformers Direct Marketing coach. With reliable methods, he helps shop owners to grow and expand their businesses quickly.
Rick has more than 25 years of experience helping businesses grow through team building, improving communications, and strategic planning. He is an accomplished author and has written more than 500 training documents to train leaders for profit and non-profit organizations. Rick provides digital design and direct mail services for Transformers Institute.
Dan's passion is helping businesses and organizations succeed! As an established business coach and consultant, Dan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Transformers Institute board.
Nick Peyton has had a long career in the auto repair industry and has excelled at turning a 2 million dollar shop into a 4 million dollar shop.
He has taught shop owners on the subjects of leadership, sales, management, staffing and hiring, and marketing. Peyton not only has a passion for the auto service industry, but also to lead people to levels they never thought were possible.
Doug started his career as a Marketing Representative working for Mobil Oil in 1987. He called on Mobil service station owners in Los Angeles, California for a time and then went on to run Mobil company-operated facilities on the West Coast before being promoted to Mobil’s HQ in Fairfax, VA. There he helped with the supervision of Mobil’s nationwide company-operated network, about 800 locations across the US. He went on to work on the development of Mobil’s On The Run c-store franchise, building the first 20 locations in New England.
While at Mobil, Doug met his business partner, Rick Levitan, another Mobil employee, and together, they founded their company, Convenience Retailing. After relocating to the Baltimore/Washington area, they bought their first location, a service station, in Ellicott City, MD in 1999. This first acquisition was the impetus for their focus on the automotive business, as Ellicott City had 3 service bays. From there, they added locations in – Columbia, MD; Baltimore, MD; Woodstock, MD – all with service bays. In 2010, they implemented their automotive brand, AutoStream Car Care, with the goal of opening stand-alone automotive service centers. They opened their first stand-alone automotive shop, a 7-bay facility in Clarksburg, MD, in 2016. They acquired their second stand-alone automotive shop, a 9-bay facility in Baltimore, MD, in 2019. Since their beginning in 1999, they now have eight locations and 57 bays to accommodate their sales growth in the coming years. The company celebrated their 23rd anniversary in business in May 2022.
When he’s not working on the business, Doug enjoys playing tennis and golf whenever he can find the time. In addition, he spends time with his wife, Wendy, and their adult children, Rachel and Tyler, as well as their grandkids.
